Christopher Hitchens gets waterboarded

This is why I like Hitch. He says a lot of things I disagree with (and a lot of things I support), but he’ll always admit when he’s wrong.

Last year, he wrote a Slate article suggesting that waterboarding- an interrogation tactic favoured by the USA- is not really torture. He was challenged on this point, and asked to undergo the procedure himself.

You can read about the experience here, or watch a disturbing video of Hitchens being waterboarded. His conclusion is simple:

“Believe me, it’s torture.”

If I wasn’t convinced before, I sure am now. We need to make sure no one is ever waterboarded by the United States, or any other country, ever again.

Its so short, incredible the impact it had on him. I respect anyone who is able to engage with their own thoughts/politics and is willing to re-evaluate them, and perhaps change them in the light of new information.
