Last week, the Canadian government reached a deal with Kandahar University to build a three kilometre wall around their campus. The new fortification will improve safety for female students, deter theives and keep nomadic goat herders from camping out in the quad. No fooling. Apparently, the place is almost totally besieged by shepherds.
Also nice to see a bit of old-school flavour to Canada’s reconstruction efforts. Can’t ensure security through military action or public diplomacy? Just build a damn wall. Hell, it worked for the Ming Emperors.

Well that worked so well for the French in 194 right?
Well done CF…
Well,
The construction of a large fence was successful in the training of Ontario lawyers. Osgoode Hall (on Queen Street) is surrounded by a large iron fence, the purpose of which was to keep out cows.
I am proud to report that the grounds have been cow free since 1867.
The fence also keeps out terrorists. As evidenced by the fact there have been no terrorist attacks on Osgoode Hall since 1867.
As such, fences are important to higher learning. If only Queen’s had one when I went there - to keep out the townies (whatever those were).
