About Nunc Scio

Nunc Scio is a website dedicated to a simple idea: the world is an interesting place, and deserves some attention. The name is Latin for “now I know”. If you spend a little time poking around, you’ll know too.

The blog is a random collection of news, facts, analysis, opinion and the occasional polemic. Although Nunc Scio focuses on media, politics and (pop) culture, nothing is ever out of bounds.

Nunc Scio is divided into five categories:

  • Gear:to explore an interesting planet, you need the right tools. These posts are for things I use, things I want, and things that should never have existed.
  • Harbingers of the Apocalypse: ever look at a person or event and think, ‘we’re doomed’? You’re not alone. Whether it’s neo-Nazi teenie-bopper popstars or the collapsing ice shelves, this category collects everything from the mildly unsettling to the downright terrifying.
  • War on Idiocy: the future of the human race is threatened by the criminally stupid. In this section, Nunc Scio does its part to flag the world’s most dangerous morons.
  • Green Bin: George Orwell loved ‘scraps of useless information’. So does Nunc Scio. Get your daily dose of random non-sequiturs in the bin.
  • Mediated: media plays a huge role in our public and private lives- from the news, to the Internet, to our daily interactions with communications technology. Mediated explores the intersections between politics and media with an eye to preserving and expanding our freedom to speak and engage in our democracies.
  • Pop Snark: As Rob Gordon says in High Fidelity, “books, records, movies…these things matter”. Check out this section for news, reviews and satire on our great cultural morass.
  • Strange Days: Truly, we live in weird times. From UFOs to cryptids to weird science, SD is your source for the oddest news the interweb has to offer.
  • Policy Intoxi: All right. I’ll admit it. I love public policy. As a wise man once said, no problem is solved in advance, and the decisions we make about the economy, the environment, health, education and everything else in the policy rainbow are of crucial importance. In PI, you can check out my humble opinions on who gets it right. And wrong.
